Vienna style - Dish - Porcelain - Vienna Plate, 19th Century

Elegant Viennese porcelain decorative plate, featuring a refined portrait of a woman depicting the renowned French painter Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun (1755–1842). At the center of the plate is depicted the artist in a dark dress, with a wide white ruff and headdress, executed with great attention to details of the face, hairstyle and clothing. The portrait echoes the iconography of Vigée Le Brun's famous self-portraits, a painter particularly appreciated for her portraits of European aristocracy. The central composition is framed by a rich decorative band in shades of turquoise, aqua, white and gold, with floral motifs, arabesques and neoclassical-style ornaments. The gilding is important, emphasizing both the outer edge and the circular frame around the portrait. The contrast between the turquoise background and pale green and the gilding gives the piece a particularly elegant appearance, typical of Viennese decorative production. Era: late 19th – early 20th century Technique: polychrome-painted porcelain with gilded decoration.
