Vigilance - Gary Westall

Vigilance by Gary Westall Painting 19.7 x 23.6 :: The picture shows a Stag in an open landscape. It is positioned frontally in the picture space and clearly separated from the reduced background. The low horizon and the wide expanse lend the image a sense of calm and clarity. The landscape is not designed as a specific location but as an open space in which the animal appears present and alert. For me the deer represents less a specific scene than a state of calm and alertness. Inspiration Photo by Michael James Smith. Signed lower right. Technique: Oil on cotton.
