Splendid rare antique asparagus serving piece with accompanying dish from Villeroy & Boch Mettlach Approximately 115 to 150 years old. Blind numbers and letters on the bottom, with the Villeroy & Boch Mettlach mark. This concerns an antique asparagus dish (asparagus cradle) with a draining section from the well-known German manufacturer Villeroy & Boch from Mettlach. This type of luxurious serveware was produced in the factory’s bloom period, roughly between 1875 and 1910. Characteristics of this object: The set consists of a large serving bowl with an open-work "cradle" on feet. Here the warm asparagus were placed, so the cooking liquid could drain through the holes to the underside dish and the asparagus would not become soggy. Style: The flowing, organic leaf shapes and the gold accents along the edges are typical of late Victorian style and the early Art Nouveau around the turn of the century. A small mark on the bottom does not detract from the beauty of the item; it is only on the underside. The asparagus bowl has no damage, which is very remarkable for the age of the dish. A rare jewel for a nicely set table. Carefully packed and sent by registered mail with PostNL track & trace.
