In the years following World War II, gold jewellery was more popular than ever before. Solid-gold necklaces and bracelets were sought-after accessories and status symbols used to joyfully display newly acquired prosperity. In Germany, this jewellery was produced primarily in one city: Pforzheim. The city at the foot of the Black Forest was the undisputed center of German jewelry manufacturing. Goldsmiths had been working in Pforzheim since the 16th century, and their traditions and expertise continue to form the foundation of local manufacturers’ jewelry-making to this day. This vintage bracelet is a beautiful example of such Pforzheim-crafted jewellery. It was created around 1960 and is crafted from 14-karat gold. The circular segment-shaped links are connected in a flexible manner, and their technical aesthetic remains true to the tradition of the late Art Deco period. They are made alternately of yellow and red gold, giving the piece of jewellery a particularly vibrant appearance. The hallmarks on the clasp indicate that the goldsmith’s work was crafted by the firm Adolf Kümmerle, founded in Pforzheim in 1935. The bracelet is in excellent condition and found its way to us from Hannover.
