Vintage Crucifix - Limewood - 1970-1980 - Jesus - 60 cm cross

Hand-carved wooden crucifix / wall cross – Alpine carving art from Val Gardena in South Tyrol. The crucifix is striking with its expressive, detailed sculptural work in the traditional Alpine style and dates from around 1970–1980. The torso is characterized by a distinctive angular knife-like finish, giving the figure unusual depth and dynamism. The crown of thorns is adorned with delicate wooden thorns that are no longer fully intact. The hands display a finely worked blessing gesture. A curved, carved INRI sign on the upper crossbeam. The cross has a substantial size of 65 x 32 cm. Smaller signs of age and wear may be present. The pictures constitute a large part of the description.
