Vintage Gold Bangle, German, c. 1950s

When, after the long years of war, food shortages, currency reform and initial reconstruction, the lust for life returned to German cities and parlors, when the economic miracle made the first new prosperity possible in the centers of industry and commerce, the art of jewelry design also awoke to new life after many years of dreamless slumber. Shining gold jewelry was a particularly popular status symbol in those years. This gold bangle is also part of this tradition. It is designed with a rectangular cross-section and its surface is decorated with fine engravings typical of the period. The silky, matt shimmering center field is satin-finished with fine cross-hatching, giving it a fine structure. The hoop is solid and beautifully crafted and sits comfortably on the arm.
