Vintage kokeshi Fuyu no Shōjo (Winter Girl)

This fantastic kokeshi was made by the famous Shozan Shido (1932-1995). The title is 'Fuyu no Shōjo', which means Winter Girl. The kokeshi is dressed in a so-called 'mino', which residents of rural and mountain villages wear to protect themselves against harsh weather. Kokeshi enthusiasts and experts regard Shozan (or Shouzan) as one of the most influential artists in the field of creative kokeshi. He distinguishes himself with his simple yet elegant designs and minimal use of color. Shozan won several prizes, including the prestigious Prime Minister’s Award. His kokeshi are sought-after objects for collectors around the world. The mino is a beautiful example of wood craftsmanship. The brown color underneath has faded over the years and has perhaps become even more beautiful as a result. You can find the signature on the underside. The kokeshi has been well preserved. Please note! There is a crack at the top, caused by the natural movement of the wood. Please examine the photos carefully before you bid.
