Vintage Pendant With Emerald From Zambia & Diamonds in White Gold, Circa 1980

The large emerald in the center of this pendant seduces the eye with its bright green colour. Seventeen brilliant-cut diamonds sparkle dazzlingly white and bright all around it. The finest bars of high-carat white gold hold all the gemstones securely in place and yet are themselves almost invisible. The large, high-quality emerald of around 4.60 ct is very clear and transparent and shines in an intense green. It is the typical green of African emeralds, an intense green with a very slight hint of blue mixed in. The emerald actually comes from Zambia, where emeralds have been mined since the 1970s. Another peculiarity of emeralds from Zambia is their special transparency. In fact, the first Zambian emeralds on the market were so clear and clean that most traders feared that the stones might be fakes. It was only after Tiffany & Co. started using emeralds from Zambia that the gemstones became widely accepted. The emerald set here shows this beautiful transparency wonderfully. It is almost as if a field of colour is floating in the frame of sparkling diamonds. This impression of lightness is further enhanced by the arrangement of the diamonds: they are arranged downwards in graduated size, so that the design appears to become lighter towards the top. We discovered the pendant in Düsseldorf and were immediately impressed by the quality of the workmanship and materials. The diamonds alone, all top Wesselton and "vvsi" graduated, are already a feast for the senses. We added the unworn necklace from Pforzheim to the pendant and had two independent expert opinions drawn up on the quality of the materials and the origin of the emerald. They are enclosed with the pendant.
