Sculpture, stool and children's chair in one, in top condition, from the Vitra brand and designed by Charles & Ray Eames in the United States of America. The item is white, and on top sits the official Vitra emblem, and underneath the decorative object is signed. This Vitra Elephant was originally designed in the early 1940s by Charles and Ray Eames. By the time Charles and Ray Eames spent many years developing and refining a technique for bending three-dimensional shapes from plywood and plywood sheets. Gradually they designed a range of furniture and sculptures. Of all those original designs, the two-piece elephant proved the greatest technical challenge due to its strong multiple curves. The techniques of the time were not able to realize a mass production of the elephant. The 14-year-old Lucia Eames, daughter of Charles, received a prototype that was later loaned for an exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1946. This prototype is still in the possession of the Eames family. In the early 2000s, the Eames Elephant was released in plastic, making it available to the originally intended audience: children. Thus the elephant can be used as an iconic design piece but also as a toy. Vitra is a unique and well-known name in the design world. Since the 1950s, the company has designed and produced beautiful design furniture, lighting and accessories. Twentieth-century designs by George Nelson, Charles and Ray Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Prouvé and Verner Panton form the basis of the Vitra Home Collection. They design products that are known for their durability and uniqueness and are so distinctive in form that you may have seen them before! Vitra products are developed to last a lifetime. Regardless of your taste or the size of the space, Vitra’s collection will appeal to you. True design classics, then.
