Futurist-inspired and Art Deco ceramic bowl designed by Nicolay Diulgheroff (1901-1982) and Tullio di Albisola (1899-1971) for the manufacturer “V. M. Albisola.” The V. M. Albisola Manufactory was created by Vittoria Mazzotti in collaboration with Tullio, sons of Giuseppe, founder of the historic Mazzotti manufactory of Albisola (1903). The bowl is a fine ceramic maiolica work, a typical example of avant-garde productions linked to the Ligurian Second Futurism. The abstract, spiral graphic decoration visible inside is the iconic Futurist design created by the avant-garde Bulgarian-Italian designer Nicolay Diulgheroff in close collaboration with Tullio di Albisola, Vittoria’s brother. The bowl features a hemispherical body with an essential, clean, compact design. The upper rim is delicately wavy and undulating, a plastic treatment that breaks the geometric rigidity and gives the bowl dynamism. The external surface is entirely covered with a glossy glaze in a vivid, bright red, serving as a striking chromatic shell. The internal decoration is asymmetrical and dynamic, structured on a combination of concentric semicircular bands and angled geometric fields. There is a sequence of contrasting tones, including ochre yellow, blue-gray, turquoise, and aqua green, laid on with a slightly dotted effect that adds material depth to the glaze. In the upper quadrant, a dark trapezoidal section (brown/black) stands out, enriched by a stylized spiral or vortex, a motif dear to aeropainting and the futuristic aesthetic of artists like Nicolay Diulgheroff. On the left side, a solid red circular stamp stands out, recalling the typical suns or planets of the cosmic graphics of the movement. The piece is distinguished by the masterful use of glazes and by the ability to condense the revolutionary energy of the 1930s avant-gardes into a daily-use object. The bowl, in excellent condition, measures 5 cm in height and 14 cm in diameter.
