Refined and evocative glass sculpture depicting a fish, created by the Venetian master Vittorio Costantini, an artist particularly appreciated for his extraordinary naturalistic reproductions carried out with lamp-work glass techniques. The work, despite its modest size, features extremely detailed craftsmanship. The body is made of transparent glass with splendid iridescent blue and azure hues, while the belly is crossed by a very fine white reticular decoration. The fins, the tail, the eyes and the shaping of the head are particularly meticulous, giving the fish a notable sense of movement and realism. Among the fins the initials “VC” are visible, documented in the latest photographs, attributable to Vittorio Costantini. Born in Burano in 1944, Costantini began working in a furnace at the age of 11 and approached lamp-work at 19. In 1974 he opened his own workshop in Venice, dedicating himself to representing the natural world through glass. Fish, insects, butterflies, birds and flowers became the distinctive subjects of his production. His works are characterized by careful observation of anatomy and nature, and the master has participated in numerous international exhibitions. The Murano Glass Museum has presented him as one of the most established contemporary masters of lamp-work, underscoring precisely the complexity and realism of his naturalistic creations. A small Venetian art object of great charm, particularly interesting for collectors of Murano glass, animalier sculptures, and works by contemporary glass masters.
