Mint error on an already very rare coin. At first glance the coin looks very messy and worn, but upon closer inspection you can see the I around 8 o'clock on the obverse, which makes the 1 in the year 1797 disappear. That can only mean the coin was struck twice, and we have never encountered such a misstrike of this coin type before.
