The blue is laid flat, without hesitation, and it bears the weight of the canvas: at the top the bank of compact clouds, beneath the dark slab of the sea. On the green meadow a cloud has landed — the same white and pale blue matter as the sky, but laid on the grass as a body, with its shadow beneath. Around rise dozens of pink, yellow, blue balloons, painted with solid, brisk strokes, each with its small knot: they cross the meadow, the sea, the cloud, ignoring any depth and keeping the surface in motion. Two storks walk on the grass without lifting their gaze, and their delicate presence makes the immensity of the rest measurable. The solemnity of the great landscape remains intact, but it has been inverted: the sky has come down to earth, and all that remains light moves upward, one by one. Signed and dated 2026 in the lower right Image dimensions: 90 x 70 cm Overall canvas size: 100 x 80 cm The work is sold without a frame; it will be rolled and shipped in a cardboard tube. The certificate of authenticity is issued exclusively upon request, in digital format. Volta’s search moves along the line of a return — not nostalgic, but active. The great tradition of European painting is the starting point: the period that each work evokes, in turn. But the gesture with which this heritage is traversed is unequivocally contemporary. Color does not illustrate, it breathes. The brushstroke does not describe, it vibrates. What remains of the past is the deep structure — a certain idea of body, of space, of light — while the surface is fully present, fully alive. Volta does not cite, returns: her compositions seem to emerge from a shared cultural memory, brought to light with different eyes.
