The architecture had to reflect the political and cultural change, but above all had to be designed to celebrate Napoleon’s power. The area most affected was that of the Castello Sforzesco and the Arch of Peace. The Arena Civica that we see today is part of these changes; in particular the Palazzina Appiani, which was built precisely at Napoleon’s will for his public appearances. From the top of the neoclassical palace, Napoleon could watch the games in the arena and, in particular, the naval battles that took place by flooding the field with water from the Navigli. In good condition, it is a very special piece that evokes moments of elegance and happiness.
