Vintage Walt Disney collector’s sericel commonly known as “Filmstrip Mickey”, created in connection with the classic attraction The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney-MGM Studios, now Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The composition features six colourful images of Mickey Mouse in different consecutive poses, arranged along a sweeping strip of motion-picture film. The sequence creates the impression of Mickey climbing and moving through the individual frames, providing an attractive visual tribute to the traditional animation process. The transparent character layer is presented over a specially printed monochrome background depicting the entrance and sculptural display of The Magic of Disney Animation. The attraction’s distinctive circular logo appears prominently near the bottom of the composition. Mickey’s traditional red shorts, yellow shoes and white gloves contrast beautifully with the subtle grey and white architectural background. A printed “Disney” copyright mark is present in the lower-right corner. This design is generally catalogued as an early-1990s Disney Animation Gallery sericel, frequently dated circa 1993. No exact year is printed on the present example; therefore, the date is stated cautiously as circa 1993. The Magic of Disney Animation originally opened at Disney-MGM Studios in 1989. Visitors could watch a film presentation and tour a working animation studio, learning about the different stages involved in creating Disney animated films. This sericel is an appealing souvenir of that important period in the history of Disney animation and its Florida studio. ITEM DETAILS: Title commonly used: Filmstrip Mickey Character: Mickey Mouse Studio: Walt Disney Subject: The Magic of Disney Animation Approximate date: circa 1993 Technique: Sericel/serigraph character artwork on transparent cel material Background: specially printed commemorative background Approximate overall dimensions: 33 × 27 cm This is a collector’s sericel produced for display and should not be confused with a unique production cel photographed during the creation of a Disney animated film. CONDITION: Good vintage condition overall. The six Mickey Mouse images retain strong, vibrant colours, clean black outlines and an attractive overall presentation. No major colour loss or serious damage to the central character artwork is visible. The transparent cel shows light surface and handling marks, minor scratches or scuffs, slight waviness and small age-related imperfections visible under reflected light. The printed background exhibits some light marks and age-related wear. The cel is currently secured to the background with two pieces of aged masking tape at the upper corners. Some additional tape or adhesive residue and small mounting marks are visible near the edges. These details have been photographed and should be considered part of the item’s vintage condition. Please examine all photographs carefully, including the close-ups and measurement images, as they form an integral part of the condition description. The photographs show the exact sericel offered in this auction. An attractive vintage piece for collectors of Mickey Mouse, Disney theme-park memorabilia and animation art.
