Warring States Fabric-Impressed Bowl + Han Dynasty Bird

East Asia, China, Warring States period to Han Dynasty. A Chinese pottery bowl of the Warring States period, hand-built with a deep rounded body and slightly inverted rim. The exterior is covered overall with fine fabric impressions producing a dense crosshatched texture, a technique in which the walls were paddled against a textile-wrapped beater during shaping, and the reduction-fired surface shows an even blue-gray tone over a buff body. Fabric-impressed wares of this type were produced in southeastern China and precede the stamped proto-porcelains of the same region. Accompanied by a red earthenware figure of a chicken or peacock of the Han dynasty, a tomb offering type, with traces of white slip. Item # 204218
