Wassily Kandinsky. Title: “Composition VIII, 1923". Signed and dated in the plate. Authorized color offset lithograph, produced premium matte (non-reflective) and with a high color intensity. Condition: the work is in excellent condition. Wassily Kandinsky (1866-1944) was a groundbreaking Russian painter and art theorist, often recognized as one of the founders of abstract art in the early 20th century. Born in Moscow, Kandinsky spent his early career as a professor of law before moving to Munich to take painting lessons. Here he began to develop his theories about art, especially the use of color and form, which he believed could evoke spiritual values and emotional responses. Kandinsky’s artistic style underwent significant changes over his career. Initially influenced by Impressionism, his work soon evolved into a more abstract style when he founded the Blue Rider group with like-minded artists in Munich. The outbreak of World War I forced him to return to Russia, where he was involved for a time with Constructivism, before moving to Germany to teach at the Bauhaus school from 1922 to 1933, when the Nazis closed it. He then moved to France, where he remained until his death. “Composition VIII", made in 1923, is one of Kandinsky's most famous works and illustrates his mature period during his time at the Bauhaus.
