A0000005201 Looking for a writing ensemble that represents the true robustness and elegance of American 1930s celluloid? This extraordinary Waterman’s Ideal fountain pen and mechanical pencil set is an outstanding specimen of the coveted Model 94, one of the series most respected by the leading historians of world high stationery. Unlike the compact versions of the era, the Model 94 was designed with elongated, regal proportions, offering an ergonomic grip and an imposing desktop presence. This set is manufactured in genuine Mahogany finish, a variegated mahogany celluloid that stands out for the richness of its dark tones and its contrasting grain. The fountain pen is crowned with its original 14-karat solid gold nib with a heart-shaped breather hole, a legendary writing instrument for its elasticity and a stroke delivery full of calligraphic personality. Key Highlights of this Piece Sharp Commercial Imprints: The barrel and cap imprints are preserved with extraordinary depth, fully legible and without the usual wear from abrasive polishing, preserving their patrimonial value. Official Catalog Mark: The base of the barrel clearly shows the numeric stamp 94, an indispensable element that international experts require to certify authenticity and standard size of the piece. Era-Specific Personalization Engraving: The fountain pen cap bears the original “J. D. PEARCE” inscription engraved in the celluloid. Far from detracting value, the 1930s personalizations add unique historical provenance and genuine vintage charm to the lot. Classic Ball-End Finishes: Both the clip, finished in a smooth sphere, and the elongated filling lever retain firm gold plating, characteristic of this model of American-made production. Technical Specifications Manufacturer: L.E. Waterman Co. (New York, USA). Model: Set 94 Mahogany (Fountain Pen and Mechanical Pencil). Estimated Period: c. 1930 - 1936. Materials: Original Mahogany celluloid and gold-plated adornments. Nib: Waterman’s Ideal 14K with heart breather. Filling System: Traditional side lever. Condition Report Aesthetic Condition (AA Grade): Excellent vintage preservation. The celluloid maintains a glossy, clean surface and structurally sound, with no cracks at cap lip edges or chemical crystallization. The filling lever and the central band retain their original luster. The nib feeds are perfectly aligned. Mechanically, the mechanical pencil maintains its advancing function, and the lever moves smoothly. As is mandatory for pieces approaching a century in age, the inner sack requires replacement for ink use. Why acquire this piece? The Waterman’s 94 Mahogany set is a premier historical investment. After nearly a hundred years, finding a ensemble with such color consistency, with the original Ball-End hardware and the clean commercial engraving is a rarity in international circuits. A top-tier lot destined to preside over the most demanding collections of America’s golden era of writing. A cult piece in enviable conservation. We wish you great success with your bids for this exclusive Waterman’s lot. May the best bidder win!
