This antique Wedgwood ceramic sprig mold was designed for industrial use in the creation of applied relief decorations, often referred to as sprigging, for Jasperware and other relief-ornamented ceramics. The mold is constructed from a block of bisque-fired earthenware or stoneware with a rectangular form, rounded corners, and a slightly convex face. The face is hand-carved with an intaglio foliate pattern featuring a central vertical stem with leaves and flower buds. The side of the block is impressed with the factory mark WEDGWOOD over the characters LH. The reverse side features a circular silver-toned label for the Rubin Collection.
