A hand-painted porcelain cabinet plate produced by Wedgwood. The circular plate features a central motif of a Garganey duck standing in water, executed by the British artist and ornithologist Sir Peter Scott. The rim is finished with a polished gold-gilt band. The reverse of the plate bears the underglaze brown and gold Wedgwood Portland Vase mark with WEDGWOOD MADE IN ENGLAND. It is inscribed by hand in black with GARGANEY and PETER SCOTT. Provenance labels on the reverse include a RUBIN COLLECTION sticker, a Skinner auction house label with the number 1921, and a research label stating painted during a brief stay @ Etruria Batkin, p. 137, #338 re: Peter Scott.
