This Wedgwood light blue jasperware oval portrait plaque features a white bas-relief profile bust of the company founder, Josiah Wedgwood, F.R.S. The piece was produced as a commemorative item for the bicentenary of his birth. The white relief depicts Wedgwood in 18th-century attire and is incised at the base with the initials W.H. for the original modeler, William Hackwood. The reverse side of the plaque contains multiple impressed marks: WEDGWOOD, and ENGLAND at the top center. The middle of the reverse is impressed with the inscription JOSIAH WEDGWOOD F.R.S., BICENTENARY, 1730-1930. An integral suspension hole is located at the top of the reverse. The plaque retains two collector labels: a yellow circular sticker from the Earl Buckman collection with handwritten notations 56 / 75 and with Hackwood, and a silver foil sticker for the Rubin Collection.
