Extraordinary natural tooth of a great white shark — This lot presents an extraordinary specimen of a natural tooth belonging to the great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), the largest predatory fish in existence. Originating from the waters of the Caribbean Sea, the tooth has been scientifically classified as A2 upper left, that is, the second anterior tooth on the left side of the jaw. With a maximum size of 50 mm, this piece stands out for its impeccable preservation and its iconic presence, embodying the evolutionary perfection of a predator at the apex of the marine food chain. Direct observation reveals a wide, triangular crown, whose shape is one of the most celebrated anatomical specializations in the natural world. The surface, coated by a compact enamel-like layer and naturally glossy ivory white, is almost free of imperfections. What makes this tooth a top-tier collectible are its edges, both equipped with a finest continuous serration. These serrations, perfectly visible in close-up photographs, transform the edge into a true biological saw, designed to cut with maximum efficiency. The tip is sharp and intact, testifying to natural loss and subsequent optimal preservation. The root, more opaque and cream-colored, contrasts magnificently with the crown’s shine. Wide and sturdy, it shows a finely porous surface, pierced by small natural foramina that corresponded to the tooth’s nutrient channels when it was still in the animal’s jaw. These details are not defects, but valuable anatomical testimonies that confirm its authenticity and allow a thorough scientific reading of the specimen. The overall shape, with a slight asymmetry, is consistent with its A2 position, a transitional tooth between the imposing anterior and the more inclined lateral teeth. Unlike a fossil find, this tooth belongs to a relatively recent era, as suggested by its state of preservation and color. Great White Shark teeth are not permanent; the animal has several rows that advance like a “conveyor belt,” continually replacing elements lost or damaged. This specimen is therefore the product of a natural biological process, a piece that broke off and was recovered before the marine environment could corrode it, thus preserving its original integrity. Few natural history objects evoke a sense of power and fascination like a Great White Shark tooth. For centuries a symbol of mystery and strength in the oceans, today this predator is studied as a masterpiece of evolutionary adaptation. Owning a tooth of this size and quality means guarding a tangible fragment of the biology of one of the planet’s most iconic creatures. Perfect for a scientific collection, a modern Wunderkammer, or as a sculptural decorative element, this specimen tells a story of perfection, power, and survival in the ocean depths.
