Whitney, Texas. $10 1902 Plain Back. Fr. 625. Citizens NB. Charter #7915. PCGS Banknote Choice Fine 15. A tough note from Hill County dating to before overprinted regional indicators were phased out in 1924. Bidders have here for their consideration one of the many rare opportunities pulled from the depths of the Jack Copeland Currency Collection. Issued by the Citizens National Bank of Whitney (Charter# 7915) which had organized in 1905 and fell to liquidation in 1933, this well-circulated $10 Plain Back is one of just three non-institutional notes recorded here by the National Bank Note Census and the only example of its type in public hands that was first issued after the expiration of the Aldrich-Vreeland legislation in 1915. In all, bidders are advised that this is nothing short of an opportunity to be had as the three surviving notes in public hands are rarely made available to bidders in a public context. Estimate: $800 - $1,200. Provenance: From the Jack Copeland Currency Collection, Part IV. Click here for certification details from PCGS Banknote.
