Willem Brakman - Collectie latere Brakman romans

Willem Brakman (1922 – 2008) was a Dutch writer. Between 1961 and 2004 he published a total of 51 novels, story collections, novellas and a single essay. He is thus one of the most productive postwar Dutch writers. He received three literary prizes, including in 1980 the P. C. Hooft Prize. Many readers find Brakman’s work difficult and rather inaccessible. Brakman said of this that he wrote for "the good reader". This meant he did not reach a large audience, which made him somewhat bitter. Still Brakman did not make concessions, because he wanted nothing but to write in his own way. Important features in Brakman’s novels are protest against death and finitude, loneliness, fear and erotica. In his later work the main theme is the contrast between reality and imagination.
