William Sellers, London an early-eighteenth century panelled...

William Sellers, London an early-eighteenth century panelled marquetry longcase clock the eight-day duration, five-pillar movement having ringed pillars and striking the hours on a bell with an internal countwheel, the eleven-inch square brass dial having a raised silvered chapter ring engraved with black Roman numerals, fleur-de-lys half-hour markings and with ringed-winding holes to the matted dial centre, a subsidiary seconds dial, engraved decoration to the date aperture, cast-brass cherub-head spandrels to the four corners and blued-steel hands, the walnut flat-top case inlaid with panelled marquetry decoration, with quartered-columns to the hood, height 217cm. Note: William Sellers was a fine maker recorded as being apprenticed in 1682 and a freeman of the Clockmakers Company from 1691 until 1740. A watch signed for Sellers was in the famed Dennison Collection.
