WMF / Geislingen - Chamberstick 248 (2) - Britannia Metal...

Presented is a rare and well-preserved pair of candelabra by WMF, dating to around 1887. Two antique candle holders from the WMF brand with 2 drip-candle holders. The selected item is a pair of ostentatious candelabra in the Neo-Baroque style from the late 19th century. These striking pieces are characterized by their richly decorated repoussé work (raising technique), adorned with floral reliefs, typical Rocaille swirls, and curving, multi-tiered bases. Similar historic models were produced by renowned manufacturers such as Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik (WMF) around 1885 to 1900 in silver-plated versions as well as tin alloys. Features and designation Style: Neo-Baroque/Historicism with asymmetric C- and S-curves, shell motifs, and plastic Rocaille Material: Often these opulent pieces are silver-plated base metal (such as brass or Britannia metal) or, less commonly, solid sterling silver (e.g., 800 or 925 sterling silver). Condition: The dark discolorations in the recesses show natural oxidation (patina) that develops on silver and silver-plated pieces over the years. AS - desired dark discoloration The height is 31 cm and the base about 13 cm square. Weight per candlestick: 660 grams. The candelabra bear WMF I/O and as, as well as the number 248 stamped. See photo. Due to their age, minimal wear and signs of use are present. See photos. No other damage such as dents or dings. The candelabra were deliberately not polished — I am sure they will shine even more after polishing again! Dear buyers! All information has been provided to the best of my knowledge and belief.
