WOLINSKI (Georges) — “Merit or Seniority?” - Lot 299

WOLINSKI (Georges) — “Merit or Seniority?” “Do you pay them based on merit, or on seniority?” Black-ink drawing on white paper, signed “Wolinski” in the lower right corner. No place, no date. Approximately 1 page, in-4 format. A WITTICISMS-LADEN SATIRICAL DRAWING ABOUT MONEY, WOMEN, AND ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS. Two elegant women, accompanied by two men of different ages, are discussing their relationships. One asks: “Do you pay them based on merit or seniority?” The other replies laconically: “It depends…” Wolinski satirizes self-serving relationships between men and women through an expressive composition in which the characters and their postures alone are enough to convey the full force of the joke. Signed drawing, presented on a large sheet with a few creases and signs of handling.
