Wooden mask – Songye – Democratic Republic of Congo This wooden mask is attributed to the artistic tradition of the Songye, a people primarily established in the central-eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Songye masks are distinguished by their geometric shapes, stylized features, and powerfully structured volumes. Carved in wood, this example testifies to the richness of Songye sculpture and to the mastery of proportions that characterizes this art of Central Africa. With its confident silhouette and singular expression, this piece naturally asserts itself as a focal point in an African art collection or a contemporary interior. The strength of its lines and the sculptural presence of the wood create an elegant dialogue between cultural heritage and contemporary aesthetics. A distinctive piece intended for collectors and connoisseurs of African art seeking an expressive, refined object rich in heritage.
