Very beautiful and decorative pulley. This industrial pulley probably originates from the port of Rotterdam (though it could have been used by a 19th or early 20th century moving company as well). The pulley likely dates from the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century and is (with hook) 31 cm high, 14 cm wide, 8.5 cm deep and weighs almost 2.5 kg. The pulley is still 100% original and looks as if it has been taken straight out of an old harbor scene. In any interior, this harbor tool is a very decorative item and a conversation piece, but it can also be used to hang up kitchen utensils, or a coat rack, or a lamp. The pulley has a wooden wheel (that is why we conclude that the pulley dates from the late 19th century or the early 20th century; later pulleys often have an iron wheel and iron sides). The wooden wheel still turns smoothly around the iron axle. The pulley is therefore still functional and all connecting materials, such as the cotter bolt and the four rivets that hold the wooden sides together, are still original (see photos). The shine of the wood is very beautiful, and the wear from use is evident. The wood is somewhat dark and feels a bit greasy. This is not just beeswax; over the years substances such as oil and fat have penetrated the wood and now give a dark sheen to the wood. The iron of the hook is also wonderfully weathered (see photos). The wood used is probably ash or oak, but that is hard to say with certainty. The wooden wheel and the wrought iron elements give this pulley a atmospheric and captivating appearance! The pulley is still very solid and stable. It could still be used to hoist heavy loads. This pulley is a very beautiful decorative object, but it can also have a lamp attached to it, or another object. It could even still be used as a pulley! This industrial heritage is certainly a conversation piece! The pulley is professionally packed and insured for shipment.
