Gold coin, issued under the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, in 1971. Commemorates the 2,500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. On the obverse are the left profiles of Pahlavi II and his wife Farah. On the reverse you can see the Pahlavi emblem (lion and sun), the face value of the coin (2000 Rials), and the year of minting (1971). Coin minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa. Demonetized in 1979 (very short term, 8 years). Worldwide mintage 9,805 units (very scarce). Gold coin. Purity 916/999. Weight 26.06. Face value 2,000 Rials.
