Writing desk in sterling silver by Nicolas Chameroi, founder of Madrid

Descriptio The French silversmith Nicolas Chameroi, founder of Madrid silver under Joseph I. The author has compiled a wealth of biographical data on this goldsmith, born in Troyes in 1762, who studied in Paris and was present in Madrid in the summer of 1800, the year he took the examinations required to practice his profession. Absent from Spain from 1812 to 1818, he returned to Madrid at this time and remained there until his death in 1828 (?). This work includes a catalogue of 13 (neoclassical) silver pieces identified in various private and public collections. Cruz Valdovinos, J. MT.
