Xiaoning Yu (XX-XXI) - Perseus and Medusa

Looking for a unique piece of contemporary art with a mythological theme? "Perseus and Medusa" is an original acrylic painting on canvas that offers a modern reinterpretation of the famous Greek myth, transforming a story of violence into an intense moment of tension, humanity and unexpected connection. Rather than representing fear, this contemporary figurative work captures a moment of hesitation: Perseus, on the verge of fulfilling his fate, is disarmed by Medusa's presence. At the moment their gaze meets, instead of destruction a fragile sense of empathy emerges. The mirror beside Medusa plays a central symbolic role. Traditionally used to avert her deadly gaze, it becomes here a reflection of lost beauty, awareness and vulnerability — a silent witness to her tragedy. Made with rich acrylic textures and vivid color contrasts, this vibrant artwork fuses classical inspiration with modern expressionism, exploring themes of identity, desire and the ambiguity between heroism and compassion. It is a striking piece perfect for a modern interior, for art collectors, or as a wall painting for the living room.
