Presented is a particularly well-preserved theater glass by the German optician Jacob Sachs, Cologne and Berlin. Jacob Sachs (often written Jakob Sachs) was a well-known German court optician who manufactured high-quality optical instruments in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was also appointed as court optician! The add-on “Hofoptiker” (or Hof-Optiker) was a title of distinction. It meant that Jacob Sachs was an official supplier to a princely, ducal, or royal house (often the Prussian or a regional Rhineland noble family). This title stood at the time for the highest craftsmanship, excellent glass quality, and fine mechanics, which is why his pieces are still popular with collectors today. Antique pieces from his workshop are today popular collector items in the Vintage Optics and Arts & Crafts category. Typical antique products from Jacob Sachs From historic workshops such as that of Jacob Sachs, mainly noble theater and viewing instruments have endured: Opera glasses and theater glasses: These were usually made from noble materials such as mother-of-pearl, brass, aluminum, or leather. Here the tubes and eye cups are encased in bone—very beautiful workmanship and without cracks! The characteristic fine lines ("Schreger lines") in the material point to genuine bone. Very beautiful cream color. Minimal, barely noticeable indentation on one of the lower lenses—metal. No mold infestation! Clear view. Dimensions: Height: 8 Width: 10 Depth: 4 all approximate measurements in cm This beautiful specimen is sure to appeal to many collectors and enthusiasts. Dear buyers!
