Albert Kotin (1907-1980) Belarus/USA

Albert Kotin, born in Minsk, immigrated as a child to the USA in 1908. He was a member of the first abstract expressionist generation and New York school. After having studied at the National Academy of Design in New York, Académie Julian, Académie de la Grande Chaumière and Atelier de Fresque in Paris he returned to New York and finished his studies at Art Students League of New York.
Before WWII Kotin participated in the New Deal projects Federal Art Project and Public Works of Art Project. After the war and back in New York Kotin became a member of the Downtown Group and the Artist’s Club.
