Banksy (1974-) Great Britain

Since the 1990s, anonymous graffiti artist Banksy has been arousing intrigue and controversy across the globe with his political art. Believed to hail from Bristol, England, Banksy has become one of the most renowned street artists through his satirical and skilful motifs, emblazoned across houses, buildings and walls worldwide. Over the years, his street art has been domesticated by the art market, with prints of his graffiti being sold in bulk to decorate homes. Some of his most popular works include 'Stop and Search', 'Balloon Girl' and 'Flower Thrower (Love is in the air)'. Several of Banksy's works have been removed from the walls of buildings and sold as murals at auction; after ten years on a pub wall in Brighton, 'Kissing Coppers' sold for $575,000 at auction in the US. Banksy has also been celebrated for his film work and provocative exhibitions, including the large-scale 'Dismaland', a sinister reimagination of Disneyland.
