Breitling Watches

In 1884, the young watchmaker, Léon Breitling, founded his company in the Swiss town of Saint-Imier. Breitling was passioante about technology and innovation, resulting in the production of intricate and complex timepieces. The death of Breitling exactly 30 years after his founding of the company left control to his son, Gaston; continuing the unfinished work of his father, Gaston created the first wristwatch chronograph - a popular innovation amongst military forces. With a reputation for precision and reliability, Breitling became the official supplier of the British Royal Air Force, as well as supplying the US military. The watchmaker turned its sights to the commercial and private aviation market with the creation of the 'Navitimer' in 1952; this model became popular amongst pilots and aviation enthusiasts for its many functions for calculating aspects of a flight plan. Five years later, Breitling ventured into the nautical market with the release of the water-resistant 'Superocean', a model which continues to be developed for divers today.
