Ettore Sottsass (1917–2007) Italy

Ettore Sottsass was a designer and architect based in Italy. He started as a design consultant for Olivetti in the 1950s but in the 60s he started developing a range of objects with inspiration of his impressions from traveling in India and America. The expression was bold and colorful using materials and colors from the consumer product world but used in a new context creating a energetic and flamboyant feel and culminated in Ettore Sottsass founding the Memphis movement in the end of the 70s beginning of the 80s. Some of his most well known products are the ”Carlton Bookshelf” and the ”Tahiti lamp”.
