Gerrit Dou (1613-1675) The Netherlands

Gerrit Dou, also known by the name Gerard, Douw or Dow, was an artist of the Dutch Golden Age and was known for his genre painting. Dou counted, amongst others, Rembrandt as a teacher for three years and a lot of his early works were inspired by the master. A significant aspect of Dou's work is his miniature way of painting and his very time-demanding accuracy. Dou became a very productive and successful artist and was also chief of the Dutch Cabinet Painting Society until his death in 1675.
