Herman af Sillén(1857-1908) Sweden

Marine officer Herman af Sillén was inspired by his long sea voyages and began to study art in Paris while on leave. Naturally his chosen motifs were the marine environment and shipping. Several of his paintings depict ships in the Swedish navy, often in conjunction with royal visits or on tempestuous seas. Af Sillén’s works are currently represented at the Maritime Museum in Stockholm.
