Karl Nordström (1855-1923) Sweden
Karl Nordström was a Swedish visual artist who studied at the preparatory school of the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, as well as in France and Belgium. Nordström later spent a period living in northern France, where he was influenced by impressionism and the Barbizon school of painters. Nordström and his friends Richard Bergh and Nils Kreuger founded Konstnärsförbundet, an artists’ association, and he was one of its leaders. The three later formed the Varberg school of painting, which was inspired by synthetism. Nordström’s art is imbued with a sense of monumentality and primarily features landscapes and depictions of urban spaces. His work can be found at the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Museum of Art, the Malmö Art Museum, and in Oslo and Copenhagen.
