Michael Thonet (1796-1871) Germany

Michael Thonet was a cabinet maker known for his bent wooden furniture. His first product that was embraced by the market was the ”Boppard Layerwood Chair” in 1836. His design was based on the process of using steam to bend light, strong wood into soft flowing curved shapes. This made it possible to create elegant, novel, lightweight and durable furniture. Some of his most known pieces are the ”Chair no 14” also known as the ”Cafe chair” produced in over 50 million and the ”Rocking Chair Model 1”
