Nobuyoshi Araki (1940-) Japan

Japanese artist Nobuyoshi Araki is considered one of Japan’s leading photographers. His interest in photography formed at a young age, and he studied film and photography at Chiba University in the 1970s. Shortly thereafter, he released his first book of pictures, called “Xerox Photo Album”. Araki is known for photographing women who are often bound and wearing colorful costumes. During his career as a photographer, he has released over 350 books and photographed world-famous celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Björk. Araki’s work is on view at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Tate in London.
