Öyvind Fahlström was born on December 28, 1928, in São Paulo, Brazil. He was an author, poet, sound poet, playwright and artist.
Fahlström’s parents sent him to Stockholm in 1939, where he remained for an extended period of time. He studied archaeology andart history and worked from 1950 to 1955 as an author, critic, translator and journalist.
Fahlström had his first solo exhibition in 1953 in which his drawing Opera was on display. He spent the years 1956 to 1959 in Paris,where he began to experiment with cuttings from comic books in his paintings. After Paris Fahlström moved to New York and his visual art evolved to allow movement around the surface of his composition.
Fahlström was an internationally acclaimed artist and was one of the more creative twentieth century Swedish artists. He was extremely productive and often addressed social and political issues.
