A rich trove of ephemera relating to women in the theatre from the Victorian era into the mid-twentieth century, tending towards the former period to include programmes, prints, photographs, playbills, music, cuttings from magazines and autographs as well as other ephemeral items. To include: a signed cabinet photograph of Esme Belinger (who played Romeo to her sister, Vera's Juliet in a production in 1896); a copy of 'Men in Shadow' by Mary Hayley Bell, a well-used copy, lacking covers, annotated by Bell with added photos from the production, also annotated; a letter of condolence from the manager of the Old Vic, Lilian Baylis; a playbill from the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden advertising a production of Quasimodo and Separation, a tragedy by the Scottish dramatist, Joanna Baillie [1762-1851]; two playbills for the Theatre Royal, Oxford from 1883; a signed cabinet photograph of the Victorian pantomime and burlesque star, Ada Blanche; a folio-size bill advertising the Royal Surrey Theatre's Grand Pantomime for 1873, 'Ye Fair one with ye Golden Locks'; a playbill for the Theatre Royal Drury Lane from 1824 advertising the singer Anjelica Catalani [1780-1849]; a portrait of Elizabeth and Anne Brunton, eighteenth century actresses, printed on silk; three typed letters signed by Italia Conti, founder of the acting school for young people; a playbill for the Theatre Royal, Worcester showcasing the actress, Clara Fisher; a playbill for the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden featuring a tableau titled, The Island of Chess; a playbill from the Theatre Royal, Glasgow (1853) featuring the Scottish actress, Isabella Glyn and an autographed note from her; the artwork for an original poster design for a production of Miss Julie, starring Adrienne Corri, which didn't happen; a programme for 'The Masque of Learning, a pageant of education devised by Patrick Geddes; a playbill for the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane for 1798 for 'Hannah Hewit, the Female Crusoe' and much more. 1 box
