Taisho (1912-1926), Shōwa Era (1926-1989), Ca. early 20th century AD. An elegant free-hanging flower basket meticulously woven from fine bamboo. The basket’s rounded body is constructed in a tight plaited weave, transitioning into an openwork rim reinforced with thicker bamboo lengths. Suspended by three elongated bamboo link chains, the basket is both functional and sculptural, embodying the aesthetic harmony central to Japanese flower arrangement (ikebana). The work is signed “Hosai saku” (made by Hosai) and is accompanied by its original tomobako (wood storage box). Size: 1450mm x 285mm; Weight: 235g Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014.
