Lumière:, Lumière: Large plate made by Vista Alegre: design Natura by Vitor Matos, 33.1cm diameter, white porcelain. Large plate made by Vista Alegre: design Natura by Vitor Matos Lumière, Cheltenham, Lumière, Cheltenham: Chef Jon Howe builds highly refined tasting menus around exceptional seasonal British produce, much of it grown by the restaurant itself. The combination of Michelin-starred cooking, a genuine farm-and-garden-to-table philosophy, and the personal involvement of Jon and Helen Howe creates a dining experience that feels both sophisticated and deeply connected to its ingredients Natura by Vitor Matos, Natura by Vitor Matos was launched in 2023 as a series of porcelain dinnerware designed in collaboration with the chef Vitor Matos and produced by Vista Alegre. Founded in 1824, the Vista Alegre factory was the first dedicated to producing tableware in Portugal. The factory started by producing glassware and soapstone pottery, since the composition of porcelain clay was still unknown. In order to overcome difficulties related to porcelain production, Augusto Ferreira Pinto Basto, the founder’s son, visited the Sèvres in France, where he studied the composition of porcelain clay and acquired knowledge that would be crucial to the discovery of large kaolin deposits to the North of Ílhavo, in 1832. The factory focused on porcelain thereon until 2009 when a merger between the Vista Alegre Group and the Atlantis Group brought glassware and crystal back to the company.
