Fortitude symbolism: Her story is an example of unshakeable faith and steadfastness in the face of torture. She is the patron saint of Catania, and her intercession is invoked against volcanic eruptions (such as Mount Etna). She is also the patroness of nurses and of people suffering from breast cancer, due to the torments she endured.
