Thutmose III, early 18th Dynasty. Daggers, models of an axe and a saw come from a foundation deposit of a temple built or enlarged by pharaoh Thutmose III. Model tools represent tools used for the construction of a temple. Inscription on the model axe: „The perfect god, Menkheperre, beloved of Baal“ (Menkheperre is the throne name of pharaoh Thutmose III, New Kingdom, 18th Dynasty, c.1479-1425 BC). Inscription on the model saw: „he perfect god, Menkheperre, beloved of Montu the master of strength“. Both are mentioning that the king is beloved by warlike deities: first the Egyptian war god Montu, second the West Semitic thunderstorm and lightning god Baal -assimilated to Seth- who had entered the Egyptian pantheon in the early 18th Dynasty. Daggers 26.3 cm and 32.7 cm long. Model knife and model saw are 16.6 cm and 5.5 cm. long. Provenance: with Wladimir Rosenbaum, Switzerland, 1973. F. Lauwers collection, Belgium.
