All auctions / Ancient Art / Ancient Roman, Empire Bronze Annular fibula – 1st century AD. - 55 mm

Bronze Roman brooch in a hollowed zooform decoration with stylized terminals – 1st–3rd centuries A.D. Culture: Roman, Estimated dating: Imperial period, 1st century A.D. Material: Cast bronze. An interesting and singular bronze ring-like fibula, with an elegant symmetrical composition and carefully crafted geometric decoration, possibly belonging to an ancient harness or bridle gear from the Roman era. The piece features a body with an architectural outline, enriched by raised moldings, two circular perforations arranged symmetrically, and a central motif of concentric circles framed by angular lines. Its upper part ends in an elaborate composition of triangular elements and diverging moldings, while the lower end presents three prolongations, with the two lateral ones gracefully curved outward. The contrast between the dark bronze background and the reliefs in earthy golden tones stands out, emphasizing the richness of the ornamentation and giving a striking aesthetic presence. State of conservation: Good visual and structural integrity apparent. It preserves its frontal decoration, both perforations, and the rear ring. It shows surface wear and earthy deposits. An attractive example of ancient metalwork, especially interesting for the complexity of its geometric design, the harmony of its composition, and its singular fixing system.
