Needlework: Tapestry technique. Hand-woven in the Aubusson style. Made with wool threads on a cotton ground. An ivory field decorated with finely rendered sprigs of flowers and foliage in pastel shades, a scattering of flowers and leafy twigs framing a wreath of flowers and foliage in soft shades of beige, faded pink, bluish-grey and muted green, which surrounds a large central wine-red medallion with a concentric ring in shades of cream and pinkish-beige, highlighted by a garnet-coloured scalloped border, punctuated with clusters of light-coloured foliage. Plant scrolls unfurl on either side of the centre, forming a balanced ornamental composition, characteristic of the classical French decorative style. The main border, set against a black background, features broad arabesques and acanthus scrolls in cream tones, punctuated by circular medallions with a garnet background adorned with floral bouquets. It is highlighted by successive pink, beige and ivory fillets forming a geometric frame that contrasts with the fluidity of the plant motif. Regency style, 20th century. 400 x 290 cm. (in good overall condition). Expert: Frank Kassapian.
